Since writing the above despatch, I have learn-

ed that my French colleague has applied to his

Minister in Peking for instructions as to the atti-

tude to be adopted by him should the presentation

of the petition, or any action taken thereon, re-

sult in a general or partial migration of Germans

from the British to the French Concession on

Shameen.

At present there are no German residents

on the French Concession.
